What does participation involve for children/young people who are selected to take part?

Pearson Assessment is running a new project on the standardisation of the Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals – Fifth UK Edition (CELF-5UK). The assessment has been developed to measure language ability in children and young people aged 5 to 21 years in the UK.

Participation in this project is voluntary. One of our trained & qualified examiners (Speech & Language Therapists with enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service checks) would arrange to assess the selected participants at your setting within the settings opening hours, or at our London or Oxford office (if they live in the area) or at a public area e.g. a library. Selected individuals will take part in a one-to-one session lasting between 60 and 90 minutes (depending on the individual’s age and ability).

There is a small chance (10%) that the children/young people who take part will be asked to be involved in a second session a few weeks later. This is for the purpose of ensuring that the test is valid. Selection will be purely random and not based on ability level
  • Personal details provided by participants/their parents will be known only to the researcher in charge of the project and will be kept secure at Pearson Assessment.
  • The participants test results will be used for statistical purposes only and will not be given to any third party. Only the Pearson Assessment research team will have access to the data collected.
  • As the purpose of the research is to create comparison scores to see which children are falling behind in their language development, we will not be able to provide any results of participants test session.
*Please note – there are limited spaces on our project. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that you or all potential participants will be selected to take part in the project.
